Creative with Waste Group
The Low Carbon South Oxford Waste Reduction group is looking to help the residents and businesses of South Oxford find ways to reduce their waste.
Our ideas for action, so far, include:
- providing information for residents in South Oxford about reducing waste, including helping them to assess how much waste they produce and what they might be able to do to reduce the quantity
- holding swap shops - a really fun event with refreshments and information, where people can bring along items they no longer need and take away something they want, for free.
- offering to help businesses in South Oxford to assess their waste, how much it costs them and whether they can reduce their costs by recycling more
- lobbying for provision for recycling in the streets, particularly around places where people congregate
- lobbying for less packaging in shops
- providing information and advice about home composting (we have our own Council-trained, Master Composter)
- running upcycling workshops - upcycling means taking unwanted items and making them into something else that you do want, for example making beads out of old magazines, earrings out of drinks cans, belts out of cycle inner tubes. (Get involved)
If you have any ideas about what people in South Oxford need to help them reduce waste, or if you'd like to join the group, we'd love to hear from you.
