Low Carbon South Oxford

Solar PV event October 2014

Fun in the sun. Come and join us!SPVimage

Members of the LCSO Community Solar PV group enjoyed the autumn sunshine at their stall at the Farmer’s Market on the 19th October.  The sun shone (always good for solar panels), the breeze was warm and leaves were beginning to fall.

It was a busy Farmer’s Market that morning; plenty of produce to buy, tasty cakes and delicious coffee as well as an opportunity to meet people and chat. We gave out leaflets explaining LCSO and this project and talked to people about our plans and the benefits for South Oxford, its residents and potential shareholders.  People were interested, wanted to know more and some offered to become more involved.

Children were invited to ‘Come and draw your vision for South Oxford - What would a Low Carbon Community look like?’ starting with the sunshine.  We had detailed drawings of the river, wind power, more cycling– as well as some imaginative mazes and jungles!

If you weren’t able to come, please have a look at this page and the rest of the website.  We are always looking for people who like to join the group – everyone has skills and expertise we need!  Get in touch by email and we can add you to the mailing list.

The next step after assessing the feasibility of specific roofs in South Oxford will be to develop a business model from which we can launch a share offer.  Look out for updates on this website

Election Hustings and issues

With the general election coming up, is climate change (and the environment more generally) an election issue for you? If so, here are two ways to find out what the candidates in Oxford East have to say on the subject:

1.' Eco-hustings', April 22nd, 7.30pm, Oxford Town Hall

This is an event organised jointly by Low Carbon South Oxford, Low Carbon Headington, Friends of the Earth and Cyclox. It will be chaired by Barbara Hammond from the Low Carbon Hub. Oxford East candidates (or other representatives) from all the main parties will be at the meeting, and will answer questions from the audience on environmental issues. For more information, see oxfordecohustings.wordpress.com

2. Letters from candidates

Low Carbon South Oxford and Low Carbon Headington wrote to all the candidates in our constituency to ask about their parties' policies on climate change. You can see the letters and the candidates replies on the Low Carbon Headington website (lowcarbonheadington.org.uk)
